My perfect version of comfort food. Chana dal, also known as split chickpeas, is a staple in Indian cuisine, prized for its nutty flavor and high protein content. It is used in a variety of dishes including soups, stews, and curries, adding both texture and nutrition to the recipes.

Recipe:

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 1 & ½ cup dry split Bengal Gram (chana dal)

  • 2 & ½ cups water

  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds

  • 2 teaspoon oil

  • ½ teaspoon turmeric

  • 1 &½ teaspoon salt

  • ¾ teaspoon blended green chili

  • ½ teaspoon blended ginger

  • 2 diced cloves of garlic

Method:

  1. Soak dry chana dal in warm water for at least 1 hour

  2. Put oil in a pot and add mustard seeds

  3. Once seeds have popped you can slowly add strained chana dal

  4. Add water, turmeric, ginger, chili, and salt

  5. Cook on medium to low heat

  6. Then once dal is cooked you may garnish with cilantro

Preparation time:

  • 1-2 hours

Serving Instruction:

  • Serve immediately
