Fried Catfish

Fried Catfish is a recipe commonly shared between my dad and his friends. This classic dish known for its crispy exterior and tender, flavorful flesh. It is coated in bread crumbs before frying and served with rice.


Recipe: 

Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • 1 pound catfish filets

  • 1 packet of Louisiana Cajun Fish Fry

  • 4 cups corn oil

  • 1 stalk celery

  • 1/2 green bell pepper

  • 1/4 bunch parsley

  • 1/4 bunch cilantro

  • 4 leaves of culantro

  • 2 stalks of green onions

  • 3 peeled garlic cloves

  • 3 green chilies

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 ground cumin

  • 1 tsp coriander powder

  • 1 tbsp lime juice

Method:

  1. Blend the following into a paste: celery, bell pepper, parsley, cilantro, culantro, green onions, garlic cloves, green chilies.

  2. Clean fish filet with cold water and pat dry with paper towel.

  3. Marinate the fish in the paste that was made.

  4. Then mix in the turmeric, salt, cumin, coriander and lime juice.

  5. Refrigerate the fish mixture for 3-4 hours.

  6. Heat oil in fryer to 350 degrees.

  7. Place fish fry mix in a plate.

  8. Then take the fish filet and bread it with the fish fry mix for on both sides.

  9. Place breaded fish in oil.

  10. Fry for approximately 4-5 minutes turning the filet half way through.


Preparation time:

  • 4-5 hours

  • Serve immediately
